Give a flower that lasts: Valentine's Day lends itself to artificial arrangements, which keep their looks long after the date. This selection brings together single stems, vases and small decorative objects to pair freely.
A decorative gift is composed like a bouquet. First choose the vase, then two or three stems of different heights, and stay within the same color family. The whole set can be arranged in a few moves by the person who receives it, and rearranged with the seasons.
Artificial stems keep their shape and color all year round, without water or light. They therefore find their place in a dark room, on a desk or in the home of someone sensitive to pollen. A wipe with a dry cloth from time to time removes the dust settled on the petals.
A clear vase shows the entire stem, right down to its base. An opaque model shows only the upper part and suits long stems that you want to shorten visually. A narrow neck holds a single flower upright, while a wide neck calls for a real volume of foliage.
Count a single stem for a narrow neck, and three to five for a wide neck. An odd number always gives a more natural arrangement than an even one.
Kept out of direct sunlight, they keep their color for a very long time. Constant exposure behind a window pane, however, will eventually lighten the darkest petals.
A deep red stands on its own in a dark vase. In a light interior, pair it with powder pink and gray-green foliage, which soften the contrast.
