French Days Lanterns

A lantern is judged first by its height: set on the floor, it holds a corner of the room; on a coffee table, it is enough to bring people together. This selection brings together indoor lanterns in openwork metal and woven rattan, from small sizes to large models over sixty centimeters tall.

Height sets the role

Small sizes, such as the Boho, Chile or Barrel models, sit on a console, a coffee table or a mantelpiece. Mid-range heights, from twenty to forty-five centimeters, dress a tabletop. Beyond that, the Replay and Ysel lanterns stand on the floor and become the anchor point of a living room corner.

Openwork metal or woven rattan

Metal cuts the light into crisp patterns and casts sharply drawn shadows on the nearby wall. Woven rattan diffuses it more widely, with a softer warmth, and brings a natural texture to a very mineral room. The same model sometimes comes in two heights: the product name then includes the dimension.

Group them at different heights

Three lanterns of unequal sizes make a better arrangement than a symmetrical pair. Place the tallest at the back, offset the other two, and keep to the same material family so the whole reads as a group. The principle works as well on a mantelpiece as in an entryway.

Frequently asked questions

What candle should I put in a lantern?

A candle shorter than the opening, so the flame stays well below the top edge. Tealights and wide candles work well in the small sizes.

Are these lanterns suitable for a garden?

They are designed for indoor use. On a covered terrace, for an evening, they hold up very well, but they are not made to stay outdoors.

How do I clean a rattan lantern?

A soft brush or the brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner is enough to freshen up the weave. Avoid getting the fiber wet, as it loosens as it dries.
