Small objects add the finishing touch to a decor: a clock with large numerals on the wall, a blown glass dish on the coffee table, an hourglass and decorative scissors set out on the desk.

Group rather than scatter

A single object gets lost, three objects talk to each other. Group them in threes, with three clearly different heights, on a tray or on a book that acts as a base. Then leave real empty space around the group: it is the emptiness that shows off the object.

The desk, the table, the wall

This selection covers three destinations. An hourglass, a paperweight and a pair of scissors fit on a work surface without cluttering it. A bowl or a dish moves from the table to the console depending on the time of day. The clock and wall decorations go up last, once the furniture is in place.

Blown glass or matte clay

Blown glass plays with light and shows its bubbles: set it near a window, where it comes to life. Matte ceramic, on the other hand, absorbs light and calms an overly shiny arrangement. A soft cloth is enough in both cases, without abrasive products and never in the dishwasher.

Frequently asked questions

What size dish for a coffee table?

A large forty-centimeter dish takes the center and stands on its own. Smaller sizes look better in groups, gathered along one edge of the tabletop.

Are these objects suitable for everyday use?

A catchall and a bowl can easily hold keys, jewelry or a few nuts. Keep blown glass for decoration: its delicacy does not like knocks.

How high should a wall clock be hung?

At eye level, slightly above the piece of furniture below it. Allow about 1.55 meters between the floor and the center of the dial.
