The vase before the bouquet

The neck decides. A narrow neck holds three straight stems, a flared neck needs a wider mass. Clear glass calls for regular lines, while ceramic and metal hide the stems and forgive more.

One dominant colour

A bouquet holds together better with one main colour and a second as a reminder. Group stems of the same family rather than multiplying varieties, and let foliage tie it together.

Ready arrangement or single stems

A ready-to-place arrangement settles the question in one move. Single stems let you compose to suit the vase, the height and the season.

Frequently asked questions

How many stems does a vase need?

Three to five stems are enough in a narrow-necked vase, seven to nine in a wide one. An odd number gives a more natural arrangement.

What vase height for a bouquet?

A vase whose height is about one third of the stems' height holds the whole arrangement well.

How do I care for artificial flowers?

Regular dusting with a dry cloth is enough. Keep them away from a south-facing window: direct light eventually fades the colours.
