Measurements to Check Before Buying
This is the most important step. Here’s how to proceed:
For Your Tree or Plant
- The external diameter of the black plastic pot supplied with your plant or tree
- The height of the black plastic pot, measured from the base to the top edge
For the Decorative Planter
- The internal diameter of the planter: it should be at least 2 cm wider than the external diameter of the black pot
- The internal height of the planter: it must be sufficient to hold the pot without it protruding unattractively
- The overall shape of the original pot should also be compatible with the shape of the planter
Golden Rule
Allow a minimum of 2 cm clearance between the outside of the black plastic pot and the internal diameter of the planter. This makes installation and removal easier for watering.
Good news: our planter product pages include dimensional sketches directly in the images. On our artificial tree and plant product pages, you’ll also find the dimensions of the included black pot, allowing you to choose with confidence.

Which Planter Shape Should You Choose?
For a Tree or Large Plant Over 1 Metre
Choose a planter with a wide opening. This style highlights the height of the tree and gives it an architectural presence in the room. Ideal for slender-trunk trees such as artificial olive trees, cherry blossom trees, ficus, or bamboo over 150 cm tall.
For a Small Plant or Small Tree Under 1 Metre
Choose a compact planter or an elongated planter to raise your plant. Be sure to check that the internal height suits the black pot supplied with your plant. To protect your surfaces, consider adding anti-scratch pads or a saucer underneath.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I Use a Sia Deco Planter Outdoors?
Yes. Our fibre cement planters are designed to withstand temperatures up to +30°C. They are ideal for sheltered outdoor use: covered terraces, loggias, verandas.
Why Is There a Hole in the Bottom of the Planter?
All our planters include a drainage hole under the base to allow water to escape when watering real plants. If you use an artificial plant or tree, this has no impact. You can place the planter directly on the floor or on a saucer.
How Much Space Should I Leave Between the Black Pot and the Planter?
Allow at least 2 cm clearance between the external diameter of the black plastic pot and the internal diameter of the planter. The same applies to height. This makes it easier to remove the pot for watering or repotting.
How Do I Read the Dimension Sketches on Product Pages?
Each of our new planter pages includes a sketch showing the internal diameter (marked Ø) and height. On our tree and plant pages, you’ll find the external diameter and height of the included black plastic pot. Compare these values to confirm compatibility. You can also follow our recommendations in the “Ideal With” section.
Can I Use a Sia Deco Planter with a Real Plant?
Absolutely. The drainage hole under the base is specifically designed for that purpose. If used indoors, place a saucer underneath to protect your floor.
In Summary: The 3 Golden Rules for Choosing Well
- Measure first: external diameter and height of the black pot supplied with your plant or tree
- Add at least 2 cm to the diameter and height when selecting your planter
- Choose the right shape: wide flared opening for a tree, or elongated, raised, or compact for a small plant
